Bits and Pieces 3

Post from June 13, 2006:
$1.4 BILLION in Bogus Katrina Aid. Money wrongly given out for season football tickets, tropical vacation and divorce lawyer.
And they say that this government has been stingy??? Ok, where's the call for Congressional hearings? When we heard about oil companies with profits in the billions, there were demands, calls, whinings about the need to hold Congressional hearings to "get to the bottom of the matter" because it was deemed SO wrong. And now, Congress passed MORE funding for the area damaged by Hurricane Katrina. This new bill contains almost $20 billion in funds to further deal with the remaining devastation falong the Gulf Coast from Hurricane Katrina. Much of the money would go to Louisiana for housing aid, flood control projects and a new veterans hospital in New Orleans. GREAT!!! More money to get spent on lap dances and empty mobile homes and trailers.

LOS ANGELES — Sheriff's deputies evicted people from an urban community garden to make room for a warehouse Tuesday, touching off a furious protest in which actress Daryl Hannah and others climbed into a walnut tree or chained themselves to concrete-filled barrels. At least 39 people were arrested.
Ok, this was all started when the city conducted eminent domain on a guy's 14 acres located within the city of Los Angeles in the 80s. They wanted to put a trash incinerator on that spot. They paid the guy $4.8 million dollars. They community forced the city to acquiesce. So, since that time, the city has designed the area to be a community gardening plot managed by the City's Food Bank. Recently, the city sold the acreage, ironically to the previous owner, for $5 million dollars.

Now, the owner of the property has a contract to put up a $16 million dollar warehouse. This plot of land is located within an areaa with other warehouses and railroad yards. This property is now privately owned and is due for construction. BUT... the illegal immigrants, who are euphamistically called "newly arrived gardners", these "specialty" gardners were told that their plots were sold and would be forced to leave. The city even provided another plot of land for gardening. But no, many refused to leave. They felt that they had a RIGHT to farm that land. They deemed themselves squatters and thus the land was theres. It got so zaney that Hollywood actors got involved to protest on the side of the ILLEGALS. They even chained themselves up to protest the move-out. And, what is worse, Daryl Hannah, climbed up into a tree and chained herself in as protest. What made it worse, was that she would rather get arrested and make a stupid idiotic scene instead of using HER OWN finances to buy the land back for the ILLEGALS.

Leave it up to zaney looney lefty liberal to think their words carry weight over actions. Leave it up to the liberals to push for continuing illegal behaviour to try and force change.

Despite record low approval ratings, House lawmakers Tuesday allowed a $3,300 pay raise that will increase their salaries to $168,500. The 2 percent cost-of-living raise would be the seventh straight for members of the House and Senate.
Yep, Congress has passed themselves another pay hike!!!!!!!! Have they deserved it? DO they deserve making nearly $170,000 a year for only working half of the year!?!?!? I think not.
